Step-by-Step Tutorial

  1. Cut fabric pieces

    • Pin each pattern piece on single layered fabric and cut one of each.

  2. Attach the Nail

    • Place the nail at the top of the finger top fabric and stitch along the bottom.

  3. Sew the stitches.

    • Using black crochet thread and needle, sew β€œstitches” to the top hand as desired.

  4. Sew the Darts

    • Fold each dart with fabric right sides together on the top finger piece and stitch closed to give the finger its rounded shape.

    • With fabric right sides together, pin and stitch the dart at the top of the bottom finger.

    • With fabric right sides together, fold along the hole in the center. Pin and stitch along the outside of the hole.

  5. Join Top & Bottom Finger

    • Stitch the top finger piece to the bottom finger piece all the way around, leaving the bottom open.

  6. Add the Bottom Cap

    • Sew the bottom cap piece to the finger, leaving a small opening.

  7. Turn & Stuff

    • Turn the finger right side out.

    • Stuff with polyfill until firm but bendable.

  8. Close the Finger

    • Hand stitch the opening closed with a ladder stitch.

Fabric Suggestions

  • Finger Flesh: Fleece, felt, or flannel (pale, grey, or zombie-green shades are extra spooky).

  • Nail: Stiff felt, vinyl, or faux leather for a glossy nail finish.

πŸ§› Add a spooky nail polish effect with metallic or glow-in-the-dark fabric paint.
πŸŽƒ Place inside a trick-or-treat bowl for jump scares!

FAQs

The oval hole in the bottom piece allows for a bend. You can also insert a thin wire inside before stuffing.

Q: What’s the best way to get a β€œbloody” look?
Use red fabric paint or a dab of hot glue mixed with red acrylic paint.

Q: Can I hand sew instead of machine sewing?
Yes!
