How to Make a Witch Broom

Choose & Paint Your Branch

Find a branch about 4-5 feet long. A little curve and bend is perfect. Imperfections make the perfect witch broom. If desired, spray paint it black, brown or purple.

To make the tulle fabric broom….

Choose two fabric colors and one color for the ribbon. Green, purple, red, black or orange make the perfect Halloween colors.

Cut one yard of tulle fabric in one color 13” tall. Fold the fabric about 9” wide.

Cut one yard of tulle fabric in another color 13” tall. Wrap the fabric around the other bundle.

Place the end of the branch into the center of the fabric with the bottom of the broom at the same level as the bottom of the fabric. The fabric won’t be sturdy enough to stand on its own so you want the branch to be all the way at the bottom of the fabric.

Place the 36” ribbon about three inches from the top of the fabric and tie a bow to hold it in place.

To make the raffia ribbon broom…

Fold the raffia ribbon in half and wrap around the bottom of the stick with the folded portion at the top.

Wrap as many bundles around the broomstick as desired. We used two bundles, folded in half.

Place six 13”x 1.5” strips of tulle fabric or burlap or mesh ribbon around the outside of the broom for a little pizzazz!

Place a 36” ribbon around the broom about 3” down from the top and tie a bow to hold it in place.
